Internet Marketing Blog featuring tools, tips and strategies to help you build your business online.

Wow! What a start to the new year! I have been so heavily involved in setting up the new News site at MostFish.com that just about everything else has taken a bit of a back seat over the past couple of months. MostFish is an expansion of my publishing business and I will let you know my plan for it in due course. Suffice to say that it is part of our overall marketing plan.

Operating two article directories takes up quite a bit of my time but I never quite realised how much time a news site would actually take. I figured that I would use about an hour a day to approve articles and deal with other issues. However, it has turned out to be a lot more than that although I have figured out a way to reduce my time spent on it starting next month.

After creating the site structure and functionality on the wordpress platform I populated the site with news stories from around the world and hired a writer to rewrite the stories. I made the mistake of outsourcing to someone who had a completely different idea to me on the use of the English language and correct grammar. This set me back several weeks and I had to hire another outsourcer to put the many grammatical mistakes right. We live and learn.

I then decided to keep the news story writing within a team I had assembled. They began work in August and have made brilliant progress so far. The level of journalism is exceedingly high and we are all very proud of what is being achieved at this early stage.

The next phase is to submit an application to Google to be awarded “Google News Status”. This is the number one goal of this project. Watch this space. I’ll keep you up to date on our progress.

One Response to “Creating A News Site”

  1. Unfortunately, this project has had to be shelved due to the massive workload I have. I made an application to Google at the end of January, following strict guidelines and a system set out by a hugely successful internet marketer based here in the UK. The site was eventually reviewed by Google News on 25th March (two months later) and rejected.

As usual, Google do not give any reason as to why they reject a site, but I put it down to not including enough news stories in each category. The site had more than 600 news stories when I pulled the plug and made the decision to focus on other commitments.

Before I actually pulled the plug I had the site redesigned and published under a different domain name and branding. I submitted this site as well on the 2nd April and it was rejected on the 19th April (just 17 days this time!).

A great deal of time and money were pumped into these two projects but sometimes you need to make a tough decision and that’s exactly what I did. Neither site has been touched since April 20th but if you are interested in taking either project on please let me know.
